Few, good and hands-on

“Why don’t you hire more people?” Because we don’t want to.

Some studios grow until you need an org chart to find out who’s building your website. We prefer something else: few, good and hands-on.

No middlemen

At Doko Studio, the person who sells you the project is the person who builds it. No account manager, no middlemen, no “I’ll pass it on to the team”.

Does that mean turning projects down? Yes. We sleep just as well. Growth for its own sake is overrated, and hiring people just to say you have more people even more so.

“Call us when you want us to think with you, not when you’ve already decided everything.”

Nadia Arioui, co-founder and creative director at Doko Studio

Not your supplier

We don’t want to hear: “Build me a twelve-screen app, with this button here and in this colour.” We want to hear: “I’ve got this problem. What would you do?”

If all you want is for us to carry out what you’ve already decided, it’ll probably be cheaper to hire someone else. And if we think your idea is bad, we’ll tell you. Kindly, mind.

Being able to say no

The best part of running a studio isn’t the chance to earn more. It’s being able to say no: choosing what we make, who we work with, and which projects we pass on because they go against who we are.

There’s instability, we won’t pretend otherwise. But in exchange you get freedom. And to us, that’s wealth.
