Mr. Legaz

A portfolio you don't just look at: you explore it.

Project information

Carlos López Legaz is an illustrator. Conceptual illustration for newspapers and publishers: wordplay and associations that steer clear of the obvious.

He had a brilliant portfolio. And no idea how to make it shine on a website.

What he wanted was clear: more editorial commissions. And an illustrator who also designs is the most demanding client there is. He notices everything.

The ideas behind the website were ours. The main one was how you move through the portfolio: restrained, so his work leads, but with animations and flows that have a twist, so browsing it never gets dull.

Then, what you don't see. Every illustration is compressed and optimised for the web, and still shows at full resolution. An illustrator won't forgive a single pixel.

And a content manager built for his layout, so he can upload projects himself without breaking anything. There are 14 so far.

Project summary

A brilliant portfolio deserves a website that doesn't dim it. Restrained so his work leads, with flows that never get dull and a manager so he can update it himself.

“I sweat every detail of my work, and my website was never going to be any different. Now I upload a new project on my own and it sits with the rest as if they'd laid it out themselves.”
